Our History
Regenerative agriculture has the potential to solve many of the world’s most urgent problems at once.
That’s why our work goes beyond running a normal business. Our mission is to trigger deep change in Europe by paving the way towards regenerative farming.
Initiatives we’re proud of
Regen Farmer Tour
Philippe goes on his regen Farmer Tour around Europe and visits 60 farms
Climate Farmers is founded
by Philippe Birker and Ivo Degn in Berlin
We win the Google Impact Challenge on Climate
The European Regenerative Agriculture Manifesto
What is regenerative agriculture?
We were joined by the pioneers of regenerative farming to define what it is and to protect it from greenwashing
The Climate Farming Conference
We united the European regenerative farming community for the first time.
Europe’s First Open-Source Carbon Credit Methodology for Regen Ag — Published!
We complete Europe’s first open-source methodology for generating carbon credits from regenerative agriculture and make it available on our website and GitHub.
We hit 500 members in our farmer community
EU-Funded Project BENCHMARKS starts
With BENCHMARKS we win our first €12M Horizon Europe Project and work with leading soil science institutes on a cognitive indicator framework for assessing soil health. Climate Farmers Academy leads the stakeholder engagement in 11 countries and coordinates the overall project communication.
First Baseline Measurements for Europe’s First Outcome-Based Regen Ag Verification!
We conduct our initial baseline measurements for what will become Europe’s first outcome-based verification for regenerative agriculture.
Innovation labs
We began our work with the EU on a series of projects that lay the groundwork for soil health.
European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture
EARA gets founded as a direct outcome and continuation of our Climate Farming Conference.
EARA is an independent, farmer-led lobby group. They’re influencing public policy at the European level. We are an active supporter of their work.
The golden share
We made the non-profit arm of our organisation the primary stakeholder of Climate Farmers. This means that we’ll never drift from our mission of supporting farmers transition to regenerative agriculture.
We verify the first farms of our partner Crowdfarming as regenerative
We win our second EU Project Lilas 4 Soils
LILAS4SOILS will develop five Living Labs (LLs) across six countries, involving 24 expert partners, more than 80 farmers and 125 stakeholders. The project will test CFPs on 85-100 demo-sites in diverse farming systems and pedoclimatic zones, focusing on: 1) peatland management, 2) agroforestry, 3) maintaining and enhancing soil organic carbon (SOC), 4) livestock and manure management, and 5) nutrient, pesticides and fertilizers management.
EIT Food funded KIARA project starts
THE KIARA project aims to educate young farmers and agronomists in Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia on practices around regenerative farming. It will offer interactive online courses, expert discussions, field days and results into an EIT Food accredited RegenAg course.
We finish our systems Map of the European Agrifood system and get to present it at COP 29 in Baku
EU funded innovation project CAVAMORE starts
In CAVAMORE we develop the first EU-wide voluntary framework for certifying carbon removals, carbon farming and carbon storage in products across Europe. By establishing EU quality criteria and laying down monitoring and reporting processes, the CRCF Regulation will facilitate the adoption of carbon farming solutions, while addressing greenwashing, and provides a “result-based” (quantified) remuneration system for farmers and foresters’ climate performance.
April – Launch of Regenerative Agronomy Training
We launched Europe’s first practical training for young agronomists in regenerative agriculture, to close the education gap that we identified in our systems map.
Support the movement
We are all united in the need for clean air, water, and a healthy food system. Here’s how you can get involved.
