In 2019 this berlin-based team decided to commit themselves to nature and farming
Deacon & Anne
Alt Madlitz, Germany
36 different vegetables and a variety of herbs.
Deacon and Anne built up a small organic farm located in Alt-Madlitz Germany roughly 80 Km east of Berlin. Currently, they are experiencing their very first seasons including, in their words, »the crazy process of building infrastructure, preparing the beds, starting seedlings and planting«.
How everything started
Ackerpulco is a regenerative agriculture project based in Alt-Madlitz, Brandenburg, which we launched in 2020. After working for many years in the cultural scene of Berlin and at many festivals (Garbizs, Fusion etc.), we decided to start our own project in order to be more connected to nature in our everyday life.
In 2019, we did an internship in an organic nursery, where we could learn the practical basics of seasonal vegetable growing.
After a long and intensive period of searching for land we found what we were looking for and were able to lease 2.5 hectares of land from the regenerative farmer Benedikt Bösel (Gut&Bösel), with wonderful soil quality and a sheep as subtenant. The best conditions to found our own market garden.
Much has happened in our first season. We supplied almost 40 households with our vegetable subscription boxes and also took part in a market hype. For next year we would like to supply even more people with our vegetables and set up more pick-up stations in Berlin.
How do they contribute to a better climate?
We avoid any animal input and do not use animal manure in our farming activities. Furthermore, we only produce our own compost to avoid any microplastic in the soil.
We are using a self-build nursury to produce mostly all our vegetables by ourselves. So we can avoid impacts through transportion and use sustainable seeds, soil and avoid fertilizers.
Between our regular crop production we grow green manure crops for the purpose of improving soil quality and protecting the soil from various influences, such as temperature changes and erosion.
What else is going on on the farm?
A sheep as a flatmate
Bibo (the sheep) is our flatmate and friend who shares the space with us and enjoys the farm as a huge playground.
Music, Nature & Rock'n'Roll
Both of us enjoy music and love the social gatherings on events. Deacon is a DJ and played at different venues in Berlin.
Acting local, thinking global
Since we moved to the land we didn’t engage much with society but we constantly reflect on our output – the interaction we have with our friends (customers) and the impact that we have on nature and that nature has on us.
