Lallinen transition to regenerative farming

Climate Farmer since
2025

Farm History

  • The earliest record of the place dates back to the 1500s. Later, for centuries, Lallinen served the nobility and the clergy. In 1875, the farm was purchased by Mikaela’s great-great-grandfather, and agriculture played an increasingly central role.
  • Mikaela and Niklas Sohlberg became the owners of Lallinen Farm in 2025. Together with Andrei Girtz and Lisa Leinonen, they ensure the continuation of agriculture into the fifth generation and lead the farm’s transition toward regenerative farming in the coming years.
  • Part of this journey is also Mikaela’s father, the farm’s elder and source of wisdom.

Previous practices

  • Soil improvement crops
  • Low till
  • Crop rotation

Investment costs

Mikaela and Niklas are still in the very early stages of their journey. So far they:

    • Hired Andrei as farm caretaker
    • Invested in machinery maintenance
    • Prepared applications for government subsidies to survey their soils.

Challenges we want to address with the transition

  • Our own lack of experience
  • Increase diversity of all kinds.
  • Reduce reliance on external inputs (reduce costs)
  • Increase the quality of produce we grow
  • Find financial resilience

“We want to grow healthy food for healthy people and offer the possibility for diversity to flourish in all ways. We want our soils to be productive and support high quality crops. We want to be financially secure, live with purpose, look out for our wellbeing and express our skills while pursuing our dreams. We want to build connection with people, land and the self.”

— The reason why Lallinen decided to transition to regenerative agriculture

Future ambitions

Cultivate high-quality food that nourishes both body and soul, while maintaining a close connection with our local community.

Create a farm where diversity is a top priority. Where different crops complement each other, and people from various backgrounds come together to learn and grow.

Serve as a place of renewal — a home for retreats that invite people from around the world to rediscover our connection with nature.

In our dreams Lallinen Farm is about HOLISTIC wellbeing — the wellbeing of the land, people and economics.
