Château Maristransition to regenerative farming
Climate Farmer since
2025
Previous practices
- EMS (environmental management systems)
- Integrate other parts (such as olives) into the farm
- Biodiversity setting in 2020
- Organic viticulture
- Manure to revitalise the soil
- Less till
- Hedgerows and trees
Investment costs
- Hedgerows and trees
- Speed up the hedgerow plantings
- We have already built an eco-friendly, biodegradable cellar out of hemp and lime, which houses all our activities.
- More rainfall capture spaces
- Water caption, earthworks, water cycle restoration
New practices

Hedgerows and bushes❍ Agroforestry

Intercropping
❍ Minimal Soil Disturbance

Cover crops
❍ Cover Cropping

Ponds & water system
❍ Water Cycle Restoration
Challenges we want to address with the transition
- Integrating bats to reduce pest pressure
- Self-seeding cover crops: do not put labour into seeding cover crops
- Get a good wage for the work we are doing, even though we are doing the right thing, getting compensation for ecosystem services is unfortunately not provided
“The anagram of earth is heart: we are nothing without Mother Earth. We live from her, and we die from her. This is the most natural process. Regenerative practices connect us more deeply with our source Mother Earth.”
— The reason why Château Maris decided to transition to regenerative agriculture
Future ambitions
Transition from sowing cover crops to having self-seeding cover crops
Intercropping in the strips
Maintain organic matter levels (around 3,5%)
Become less dependent on wine, also go into olive production
This farm is part of something bigger.
So can you. Apply for the Regenerative Agronomy Training.
