Science-Driven Solutions for Regenerative Farming

We are dedicated to staying at the forefront of scientific discovery, ensuring that all our regenerative farming services are grounded in solid, up-to-date research. At the heart of this mission is our Research and Innovation Lab, where we explore a wide range of topics essential for advancing sustainable agriculture.

Skills & Services

The Research and Innovation Lab of the Climate Farmers Academy is composed of a diverse team of scientists, developers, agronomists, project managers and business experts that contribute to projects with the following expertise:

Stakeholder engagement

=

Regenerative farmers & land managers

The Climate Farmers Academy engages and educates a vibrant community of 600+ farmers in Europe with expert talks, hands-on education programmes, digital courses and a peer-to-peer platform. We are bringing this expertise to projects like BENCHMARKS where we organised a series of 21 workshops across 11 countries with 650+ land managers to collect their needs around soil health.
=

European and national policy makers

The Climate Farmers Academy co-founded the European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture (EARA) as a voice for regenerative farmers. Our team organized the Climate Farming Conference leading to the European Regenerative Agriculture Manifesto signed by 70 experts during the 1st Climate Farming Conference in 2021 and published numerous policy recommendations, e.g. with the Club of Rome.

=

Building of policy-science-industry interface

The Climate Farmers Academy builds bridges between land management, research and downstream food industry. Our mission is to make solutions more farmer-centric and to bring in the farmer's view directly into the science. Our team of experienced facilitators carried out numerous workshops, co-creative sessions and exchange formats.
=

Communication & Collaboration

Our team is in charge of coordinating the communication and dissemination activities of BENCHMARKS and CAVAMORE. This includes the setup of external and internal communication channels like websites, social media, project management etc. A core expertise of the Climate Farmers Academy is the facilitation of cross-project collaboration, like in EU Mission Soil Clusters initiated by us.

Business models & exploitation

=

Regenerative Business Models

The Climate Farmers Academy has an experienced team of economic experts developing, reviewing, testing and implementing business models for a regenerative food supply chain. Our regenerative business models combine a fair remuneration of ecosystem services, the potentials of digitalisation and the imperative of fairness and transparency.
=

Sustainability of living labs and hubs

Our team has quite some expertise on business and governance models to sustain innovation infrastructures like living labs, innovation hubs or clusters. This expertise drives from our involvement in large projects like IoF2020 and SmartAgriHubs while we are utilizing it in building 5 living labs on carbon farming for LILAS4SOILS, running our farmers community and the RIL Hub.
=

Holistic Farm Health Monitoring

The Climate Farmers Academy is using a holistic approach to monitor the success of regenerative practices on a farm. Our MRV looks next to actual improvement in the 4 main soil functions nutrient cycling, water cycle, biodiversity and climate regulation also in the farmer's wellbeing, the economic situation and the integration of the farm in its local community.
=

Business Model Development & Visualization

The Climate Farmers Academy adapted innovative business model components from other industries to the food supply chain and has developed a concept with partners to visualize business models.

Technologies & Innovations

=

Digital MRV Solutions

The Climate Farmers Academy is actively working on the digitalisation of the monitoring and reporting process to reduce the workload on all ends. We are actively exploring collaborations with farm management system providers, agronomists and labs to make soil health MRV a digital support process with low bureaucratic effort.
=

AI & Big Data

The Climate Farmers Academy is supporting all European activities to make research data discoverable, available and exploitable. We want to accelerate the process of creating actionable insights for farmers on their data and research data. Our core principle is that the land manager is the owner of data and decides where it should go, but is also entitled to supportive tools for the farm management.

=

Smart Equipment & Robotics

The Climate Farmers Academy supports the development of smaller vehicle systems that are highly versatile and reduce soil compaction. The regenerative agriculture is a highly complex system for seeding, weeding, monitoring and harvesting and current systems are not tailored to these challenges. We support the development of open swarm robotics systems at an affordable price range.

Speed up and strengthen effective collaboration in European Ag-Innovation community

Our Research and Innovation Lab is one of the main initiators of the Mission Soil Clusters where over 100 representatives of 51 EU projects meet on regular basis and align their activities. The Mission Soil Platform is the one-stop shop to learn about Mission Soil and the opportunities to engage in its activities. It supports the roll-out of the Mission and related R&I activities, facilitates collaboration among the Mission Soil-funded projects, and increases awareness about the importance of soil, the challenges it faces and the solutions that exist thanks to the latest research results.
