Rennen Farm‘s transition to regenerative farming

Climate Farmer since
2023

Previously organic

Previous practices

  • The incorporation of pruning residues into the soil
  • The addition of other organic materials to the soil
  • Soil moisture monitoring to use resources more efficiently

Investment costs

The transition has been more about a change in management practices than financial investment. The most notable investment has been in soil moisture probes.

New practices

❍ Agroforestry

Challenges so far

  • Living with weeds
  • Not using chemical fertilizers

Outcomes so far

  • Fewer pest outbreaks
  • Improved soil quality

Learnings of your journey

Everything a farmer needs can be found in nature: the predators, the pollinators… If you destroy their habitat, you will need to resort to chemicals. My advice: don’t be afraid to change your mindset, things will work out in the end.

“Regenerative Agriculture preserves natural resources without negatively affecting the farm’s profitability.”

— The reason why Rennen decided to transition to regenerative agriculture

Future ambitions

Integrate sheep to help keep the grass under control

Add more moisture probes and a weather station to collect more data for better decision-making.
