Rennen Farm‘s transition to regenerative farming

Climate Farmer since
2023

Previously organic

Previous practices

  • The Incorporation of pruning residues into the soil
  • The addition of other organic materials to the soil
  • Soil moisture monitoring to use resources more efficiently

Investment costs

  • It has been more about management than financial investment. The most notable investment has been the soil moisture probes.

New practices

Challenges so far

  • Living with weeds
  • Not using chemical fertilizers

Outcomes so far

  • Lower incidence of pests
  • Improved soil quality

Learnings of your journey

The main lesson is that everything is in nature: the predators, the pollinators… If we destroy their habitat, that’s when chemicals are needed. Don’t be afraid to take this step and change your mindset – things do work out.

“ Regenerative Agriculture is highly advisable for preserving the natural resources we are depleting, and it does not negatively affect the farm’s profitability.

— The reason why Rennen decided to become a training farm

Future ambitions

Integrate sheep to help keep the grass under control

Add more moisture probes and a weather station to collect more data for better decision-making.
