Podbukovc transition to regenerative farming

Climate Farmer since
2025

Farm History

  • Robert’s mother inherited the farm on 1976 from her father. Together with Robert’s father, they developed the farm and introduced practices such as crop rotation.
  • Although Robert and his wife were not farmers themselves, they recognized the importance of keeping the farm in the family. Today, they have ambitious plans for the farm’s future.

  • Their four children, especially Alex, are already actively involved and are committed to continuing the farm’s legacy.

Previous practices

  • Certified Organic Farm
  • Clean up mowing

Investment costs

  • Build a vacation cottage
  • Electric saw mill
  • Build terraces for gardens
  • Repair some roofs

New practices

❍ Rotational Grazing

❍ Minimal Soil Disturbance

Challenges we want to address with the transition

  • Better defence from invasive forest (ferns and thornbushes on meadows)
  • Better pasture management
  • More resilience in drought periods
  • Lack of biodiversity
  • Less manual labour with clean-up mowing

“The times we are transitioning into, and in which our children will live, are uncertain. Farms practicing regenerative agriculture will likely have a stabilizing effect on our children’s lives in these unstable times.”

— The reason why Podbukovc decided to transition to regenerative agriculture

Future ambitions

Self-sufficient farm in which tourists can come to experience an authentic mix of tradition and modernity on a small mountain farm.
